One of the five 2009 American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) Hall of Fame by AFH Renström, MD, PhD, is in the Hall of Fame Society Friday, November during its annual meeting in Keystone, Colorado was added in July be.
born in Sweden, Dr Renström studied at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. He defended his dissertation in 1981 with a book in amputee below the knee. Before moving to the United States in 1988, Dr Renström worked in the Department of Orthopaedics at Sahlgren University Hospital in Gothenburg. He then moved to the United States, has been a professor of orthopedics and sports medicine at the University of Vermont in Burlington .. He remained there until 1997 when he became professor and head of the Department of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden.
He was very active in sports medicine research and has published over 163 peer-reviewed articles, 16 books and 72 chapters of books and records. His book, written by Lars Peterson, “Injuries in Sports” is a bestseller worldwide. His research has also received prestigious awards, including the AOSSM O’Donoghue Research Award, Kappa Delta Award AAOS ‘Albert Trillat Award and GOTS “ISAKOS Beiersdorf Research Award, won with outstanding research of Sweden Prize in Sport Science.
employs Apart from his research and teaching program, Dr. Renstöm as chairman of the Swedish National Council for Sport Science Research, has served Vice President of International Federation of Sports Medicine, and president of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. He was a founding member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) of the Academy of Sport Science and was a member of the Scientific Advisory publication of the IOC and a member of the Medical and Scientific Commission of the IOC. He founded and was president of the International Society for Medicine and Science in Tennis. He currently serves as medical director of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Tour.
Although currently manages medical services for athletes during the Olympic Games and the ATP World Tour is also the Chief Medical Officer of the Swedish Football / Soccer Federation, and treated athletes as a physician at the Swedish Davis Cup tennis.
AOSSM established the Hall of Fame in 2001 to members of the orthopedic sports community, which contributed significantly to the specialty of honor. The nominations are submitted by AOSSM members and reviewed and selected by the Hall of Fame subcommittee.
